Bio

Douglas O’Connell: Video Designer

Douglas began his
career working in Off Broadway and regional theatre throughout New
York. In Chicago, as a member of Redmoon Theatre, he
received awards in design for his work at the renowned Steppenwolf
Studio Theater.

Now based in the UK, he has been lead artist on numerous site specific
projects working with the Birmingham Royal Ballet, Collective Art Noise,
Emergency Exit Arts and the Greenwich/Dockland Festival. His video work
has been seen at the National Theatre’s Festival of Lights at the
Bath International Festival. and his multi-media
piece InVertigo, was featured at the Visions Festival in Brighton.

He has created video for the National Tour of Here’s
What I Did with My Body Did One Day,
Lightwork’s production of Back at You at the BAC, Sarajevo Story at the Lyric Hammersmith Studio, Saturday Night Sunday Morning at the Harrogate Theatre, Fight Face by Sophie Wooley, This isn’t Romance, directed by Lisa Goldman at the, Soho Theatre and  Monsters at the Arcola.

Recently Douglas was commissioned to design a video birthday card to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Harold Pinter’s The Birthday Party which was featured at the 50th Anniversary Gala and now resides as part of the Pinter collection at the British Library

Douglas is a Post Graduate Senior Lecturer in The Visual Language of Performance at Wimbledon College of Art
in London where he was awarded a fellowship for Promising New Research. In addition he is a Visiting Lecturer and Strand tutor at the Central School of Speech and Drama.
